What building in Downers Grove actually involves
Downers Grove is really several housing markets stacked on top of each other. The blocks nearest the downtown station hold late-Victorian and early-1900s homes with the quirks that come with them: knob-and-tube remnants, undersized service panels, plaster that does not love new openings. Push out toward the south and west and the stock shifts to mid-century ranches and split-levels on generous lots, which is where most of the addition and second-story work happens.
How we approach Downers Grove projects
On the older homes near downtown, most of our work is whole-house renovation and kitchen reconfiguration, usually with structural changes to open up compartmentalized floor plans. On the postwar stock, it is additions, dormers, and full second-story pop-tops. We also take on teardown-and-rebuild projects where the lot is worth more than the house standing on it.
